The nature center at Robert Moses State Park began providing a museum experience and environmental education for the public in 1990. Since then, it has evolved and gone through many changes. In March, 2010 the center was permanently closed due to a tragic fire. No live animals were lost, but a complete metamorphosis did take place.

Upon the New York State Power Authority's decision to rebuild the nature center, management shifted to the Friends of the Robert Moses State Park Nature Center, Inc. Building and exhibit designs are nearly finished and the future is bright for the nature center. Programming has been rebuilt and is more exciting than ever. Staff is located near the trail head in a temporary location until the new center is complete. Programs are offered on and off-site, year-round. Winter recreation equipment is available to the public as well. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing events fill the winter calendars and special programming is always offered during school vacations. Visit: The Nicandri Nature Center for a full listing of events.
