Boo at the Zoo

Join the animals at Trailside as they celebrate Halloween! The bears will trick or treat their way through their den to find treats. You can make some of your own.

Trailside educators, staff and volunteers will be there to make crafts, lead games, and tell you all about the wonderful animals at the Zoo!

Admission to the Zoo is free. Parking is $8 at the Bear Mountain lot.

The Great Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular Sail

The 2nd annual Great Jack-o'-Lantern Spectacular Sail will be hosted at Belmont Lake State Park on Saturday, October 25.

Participation in the Jack-o'-Lantern Spectacular Sail is limited to the first 50 carved pumpkins. Pumpkins must be between the size of a soccer ball and a basketball and must be dropped off on the day of the event between 11am and 3:30pm. In addition to the Jack-o'-Lantern Sail, there will be a kid-friendly spooky house, balloon twisting, arts and crafts, trick or treating, "funny fotos," games and more. Everyone is welcome to join this spooky celebration.

Festivities begin at 4pm, the Jack-o-Lanterns will set sail at approximately 6pm.

Holiday Helpers, we need you! As Staatsburgh prepares for its "Gilded Age Christmas" tours, the site needs help with decorating the mansion, interpreting the historic rooms and site history for visitors, delighting visitors with costumed interpretation and assisting with special programs for children. Mary Hughes, Olana Flower Garden Caretaker, will teach the art of creating wreaths in this hands-on workshop. Exquisite natural materials will be provided to create your own wreath. Bring your own pair of pruning shears.

Mary Hughes, Olana Flower Garden Caretaker, will guide participants to create their own unique table top tree constructed out of fresh boxwood cuttings. Boxwood trees are great to enhance the home for the holidays and will last until Spring. All materials are provided with the class, including ribbons, bulbs, decorative fruit and pine cones.

Mistletoe Mouse has inhabited the mansion at Christmastime for many years. Children enjoy searching for mouse houses in the historic rooms while on tour in the holiday season. For these workshops, kids ages 6-10 can tour the house briefly to see the mouse houses on display, and then use craft materials to build their own mouse house to take home. An adult must accompany child. Reservations required, so please call to make a reservation and inquire about admission fee.
