What was it like living in New York during the American Civil War? How was life different in rural areas from life in the city? What would have happened if the South had
won the war? Come explore answers to these questions and many more as we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War. Call the site for more details.

A free walk-in program for families with children ages 3-10. Visit our Red Barn Discovery Center during the Farm Market to learn about our agricultural past, milk a full-sized mechanical cow and even dress like a farmer. The Farm Market is open each Saturday through Oct. 31st from 9am - 1pm.

Before it was a historic site, John Jay Homestead was an active farm. Join us as we explore our chicken coops, learn about how life was different 200 years ago, and even try your hand at cider pressing. This week is sure to be filled with plenty of farm fun! Call the site for more details.

Come to the Bear Den at 10:30 to make spooky snacks for the black bears. At 11:00, watch the zookeepers let the bears loose to enjoy the tasty Halloween decorations. Touch real animal skulls, see stuffed specimens in the Nature Study museums, make Autumn crafts and learn about bats and our not-so-scary owls and vultures. Lots of family-friendly fun and activities.

Meet Sinterklaas, the Dutch St. Nicholas, who will be stopping by to see if you've been good or bad this year! Crailo's Marketplace Museum shop will be offering unique gifts for the holidays. There will be crafts for the kids and refreshments by a crackling fire. The museum will be open for self-guided tours.
