In "Captain Kidd" (1945, 90 minutes) notorious pirate William Kidd goes on one last raid before rebranding himself as respectable at the turn of the 18th century. Sleepy Hollow Historian Henry Steiner and Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site manager Michael Lord bring to life the history of the real pirates of the 17th century and the real history behind Captain Kidd, Frederick Philipse and colonial New York. Learn about the history of tea in colonial New York, from its introduction in Dutch New Netherland to the Tea Act boycotts of the American Revolution and beyond. Sarah Wassberg Johnson, program and event manager at Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site in Yonkers, NY, will lead us on a journey through the global and local history of tea and sugar, all the accoutrements necessary to consume it, and New York's unique role in American tea culture. "Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World" (2003, 138 mins) follows a British naval Captain Jack Aubrey and his crew as they experience both boredom and intense battle as they play a game of cat and mouse with a French ship during the Napoleonic Wars. With historian commentary by Chad Johnson of New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Site and archivist and reenactor Matthew Thorenz, who will reveal the historical accuracies and inaccuracies of the film and how true it is to the novel of the same name by Patrick O'Brian.
