New York State Golf Courses Open

Agency Introduces Golf Gift Card in Time for Father's Day

(May 24, 2007, Albany, NY...) According to the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) Commissioner Carol Ash, New York State Park golf courses are open for the season. State Parks operates 29 golf courses in 21 facilities across the New York.

"Come out and swing at a State Park golf course! Our public courses offer great value and some of the most challenging play in the country," Ash said. "As the weather improves here in New York, it is the perfect time to go out enjoy these beautiful courses."

Among the 28 State Park golf courses in New York is the newly acquired course at Indian Hills in Steuben County. The property, purchased from Chemung Canal Trust Company, contains approximately 2,400 feet of frontage along the Tioga River and has panoramic views of the surrounding Southern Tier hill country. The course offers challenging play at an affordable price.

"And for those still searching for the perfect Father's Day present, consider our new Golf Gift Card and share our spectacular courses with Dad this season!" Ash continued.

OPRHP now offers gift cards for golf at most of the 28 state-operated courses. The Golf Gift Card can be purchased by credit card, check or cash in person at any of the golf courses at which it is accepted and, in most areas, at the State Park regional offices. It can be purchased for any amount and, while it does not guarantee availability at a particular course or tee time, it has no expiration date and is usable for any golf service except those operated by a private concern under contract with New York State Parks.

While most courses have already opened, changes in weather may impact operating schedules. Golfers are advised to call ahead if there is a question about course conditions. Greens fees vary, so parks officials recommend golfers contact each course for current fees and reservations.
