Valley Stream State Park is a day-use picnic facility next to a highly-developed residential area. The park offers picnic areas with tables, fireplaces and grills; children's play areas; horseshoe, volleyball, basketball, ball fields, nature trails, and cross-country ski trails. The Squirrel Nut and Hickory Nut nature trails give children the opportunity to explore the various habitats within the park. The park has a walking course, a half-mile loop with 15 stations, at which walkers can complete a variety of stretching and strengthening exercises. It is a unique outdoor exercise adventure with a focus on cardiovascular fitness, vitality and longevity for all ages.

Hours of Operation

  • Cross Country Skiing: Available during the winter season.
  • Open year round, 7 am - sunset. Closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
  • Picnicking: Available all year.
    Permit required for groups of 50 or more. No fee for permit.
    Special Group picnic permit required for Pavilion rental.
  • Volleyball, horseshoes, basketball, softball, hiking, bicycling, fitness trail and children play areas: Available all year.

Fees & Rates

Most New York State Parks charge a vehicle use fee to enter the facility. Fees vary by location and season. A list of entry fees and other park use fees is available below. For fees not listed or to verify information, please contact the park directly.

Your key to all season enjoyment of state parks is our season's pass. For $65, the Empire Passport provides you unlimited day use vehicle entry into most of our parks. Apply on-line or call your favorite park for more information.
