When the property was passed to the state in 1972, the camp was generally left to deteriorate. Formed in 1990 in response to concerns about Santanoni's future, Adirondack Architectural Heritage began working in partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Town of Newcomb to preserve the camp.
