"LIBERTY" Cuff Link- These fragile glass jewels, excavated from a historic trash pit behind Fort Montgomery's Enlisted Men's Barracks, were originally mounted in a cuff link. Impressed with the word "Liberty" and floral scrolls, they are similar in appearance to a document seal found at Fort Arbuckle in West Virginia as well as one found at an American barracks site in Manhattan. These objects may have originated from the 1760s "Wilkes and Liberty" democracy movement in Britain and were perhaps used by American troops to express their hope and desire for American independence.
