William Livingston attributed to John Watson ca. 1730. This little boy, portrayed in the manner of a young aristocrat, grew up to be Sarah Livingston Jay's father. The Livingstons were one of the most powerful landed families in colonial New York. As an adult, William was a prominent Patriot who served in the Continental Congresses. He became the first elected governor of New Jersey in 1776.
