The Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center is located near the shore of Thompson's Lake between Thompson's Lake State Park and John Boyd Thacher State Park in Albany County. Exhibits and displays include a geologic model of the Helderberg Escarpment, a live honeybee observation hive, bird viewing area, fossils, furs and other hands-on collections. The Nature Center's construction was supported through large donations to the Natural Heritage Trust from Fred and Martha Schroeder. A capital campaign was also conducted that resulted in many smaller donations.
