The Knickerbocker Hotel in mid-town Manhattan was built in the early 20th century and financed by John Jacob Astor. The grand Beaux Arts style hotel was a showcase of luxury in a time of prosperity. However, by the 1920s, the hotel was converted into an office building with retail space on the ground floor.
