Public School 109 at 215 East 99th Street in New York City was built in 1898 and is being rehabilitated by Artspace, a national nonprofit organization that creates living and work space for artists and cultural groups, in partnership with El Barrio's Operation Fightback, an East Harlem nonprofit community development organization. The long vacant school was nearly lost due to its severely deteriorated condition.
