The demolition was denied and the University Neighborhood Preservation Association, a nonprofit community redevelopment organization, bought the house to protect it. A state historic preservation grant awarded under the Environmental Protection Fund helped the association to rehabilitate the house for residential use, transforming an eyesore into a community asset.
