This is the pilot wheel from the steamboat Mary Powell, which sailed on the Hudson River from 1861 until 1922. The Mary Powell, also known as the "Queen of the Hudson," was one of the most well-known American side-wheeler steamboats of her time. Her route ran from Kingston to New York City in the morning with stops at Poughkeepsie, Milton, Newburgh, and Cornwall; in the evening she reversed her journey. The Mary Powell could reach a speed of around 25 miles per hour. Her fastest trip upriver was in 1881 and took 4 hours and 10 minutes.
