Mrs. Mills by Francois Glamony, 1907- This portrait of Mrs. Ruth Livingston Mills (1855-1920) depicts the petite socialite whose aristocratic air and Livingston pedigree demanded the attention of her millionaire contemporaries. The 1895 renovation of her Hudson River mansion provided the perfect setting for the large house parties she hosted to solidify her place as one of the premier society hostesses. This portrait was done by Francois Glamony, a rather unknown painter, and depicts Mrs. Mills in her early 50s. It originally hung in the ballroom in the Millses' New York City home.
