Sunset Snowshoe Hike

Starting at the Summit warming hut on the Red House side of the park, we will be hiking the new trail called Bear Paw dedicated to snowshoe use and hiking with dogs (as long as they are leashed). The 2.4 trail is easy - moderate with some slight elevation changes.

Participants should dress for the weather, bring a flash light or head lamp, water, snack, and a sense of adventure. Everyone is welcome to stay after the hike to socialize in the Warming hut. If there is no snow, we will just walk the trails of the Art Roscoe Area.

**Snowshoes are available to use during the program. Supplies are limited. Please call in advance to reserve a pair.

Join Nick Martin, Park Educator, for an exhilarating snowshoe hike! In this recreational program, participants will explore the Mossy Glen Footpath, a nearly two mile long trail that traverses through a diverse forest. If the conditions are snowy, animal prints and signs are often seen along this trail. Once we reach the end of Mossy Glen, we will take a short spur of Blueberry Run Footpath and return to our starting point along the easy walking Lower Awosting Carriage Road, making the round trip distance approximately four miles. Snowshoes may be rented from the Park Preserve Office, located at the Peter's Kill Area, for $5 per person for this program. Early arrival is requested for snowshoe rental. If there is insufficient snow cover, this program will be offered as a hike. If conditions are icy, participants may want to bring Micro Spikes or other traction devices. Meet in the Awosting Parking Area. Pre-registration is required.

Join Laura Conner, Environmental Educator, for a six mile cross country ski to Millbrook Mountain, where panoramic views of the Catskills, Skytop Tower at Mohonk Mountain House and the Hudson Valley abound. This route follows along the Lake Minnewaska Carriage Road to reach Millbrook Mountain Carriage Road, a route that does include challenging hills as well as moderately hilly terrain. Participants must provide their own ski equipment and must have previous cross-country skiing experience. They should also wear appropriate winter gear and bring adequate food and water. If there is no snow, this outing will be a hike.

On this approximately three and a half mile snowshoe outing, participants will walk through the forest, along the Peter's Kill stream and return on Lower Awosting Carriage Road. Snowshoes may be reserved and rented from the Park Preserve Office, located at the Peter's Kill Area, for a discounted rate of $5 per person for this program. Daily snowshoe rental costs $15 per adult and $14 per junior. Early arrival is suggested for snowshoe rental. If there is insufficient snow cover, this program will be offered as a hike. Join Environmental Educator, Laura Conner, for a four mile round trip, cross-country ski outing to Echo Rock, where scenic views of the Palmaghatt Ravine below are breathtaking. This modestly challenging outing will follow along Lake Minnewaska Carriage Road, Millbrook Mountain Carriage Road and the recently renovated Hamilton Point Carriage Road, a route that does include two challenging hills. Participants must provide their own ski equipment and must have previous cross-country skiing experience. Once trails are groomed for cross-country skiing, a per-head trail fee will be charged. The trail fee is: $10 per adult, $9 per senior citizens (62 and older) and $7 per junior (17 and under). If there is insufficient snow cover, this program will be offered as a hike.

Take a walk through a variety of habitats from open fields into woods and forest. We will look for sign of wildlife and enjoy the beauty and silence of a winter wonderland. Calling all preschoolers, this snowshoe adventure is just for you. We will put on our tiniest snowshoes and take a fun preschool-paced walk outdoors. We'll practice waddling like a penguin, tromping like a polar bear, falling down then getting back up. Afterwards, warm up indoors with some books and a paper craft activity. Program is appropriate for ages 3-5. Adult snowshoes are also available. Please call 872-0800 to register and reserve your snowshoes.

Enjoy the beautiful moonlit views of the park on an evening snowshoe walk. With a bright moon and cover of snow, we'll leave the flashlights behind. Snowshoes are available to rent for $5 per person and may be reserved in advance. Appropriate for adults and children ages 12 and up. Conditions will determine meeting place.
