Lake Taghkanic State Park
The Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association hosts a monthly stargazing party in the West Beach parking lot. Bring your own telescopes and binoculars or use those provided by our members. RSVP is required at least one day beforehand. You will be asked to provide your license plate number and make/model car, so Park Management and Police have a record of who will be in park after hours. More info at

Stargazing in the Preserve

Rockefeller State Park Preserve
Tickets available on June 20 at 10 am. Peer into the cosmos with Vinny Coulehan of the Rockland Astronomy Club. View the night sky through a telescope and observe the craters on the moon in detail. Capture images of the moon to take home with you using a special attachment on the telescope. Meet in the Visitor's Center courtyard, followed by a short walk on the Overlook trail to our viewing location. Bring water and a flashlight or headlamp with a red setting. Rain date: TBD. Full Moon Hike

Pre-registration by phone required!
Step outside at night in the park. Join us for this full moon program as we hike through the park and talk about all things nighttime like nocturnal animals and what goes on outside while we sleep.

This is a guided hike around Moreau Lake after hours. We will get to experience the woods at night while viewing the full moon. This will be about a 2-3-mile hike on relatively flat terrain. Reservations are required, please call 518-917-2174 with 24-hour notice. Cost is $5 for adults and $1 for children.

Experience the Preserve after dark and observe the "super" moon as it approaches perigee, when it's closest to Earth! Join us for this 4-mile hike on carriage roads lit by moonlight. We walk at a brisk pace; some hiking experience is recommended. Meet in the Visitor's Center courtyard. Please bring water, a flashlight or headlamp, and dress according to weather conditions. Leashed dogs are welcome.
Cost: $3 + Eventbrite fees. Max: 40 people.

Starting at the Carrick Road trailhead, we'll walk 1.5 miles (three miles round-trip) over the Perimeter and Hang Glider trails to Hang Glider Point. We'll stop occasionally to adjust our night vision and explore the sights and sounds of the forest at night. Trails traverse moderate terrain, and participants are encouraged to bring their own light sources. Located at Carrick Road trailhead. Best Suited for: Ages 12 and up

During the event there will be a lunar eclipse. No preregistration required. Enter via main entrance and follow signs to program-- first left off main entrance road. Please drive slowly in the park at night.
