Full Moon Hike at Big Bend

Join a park educator on a beginner hike at the new Big Bend Preserve. If the clouds cooperate, we'll get to enjoy the splendor of the full "Beaver" moon rising! This hike is family friendly and well-behaved dogs on a 6 foot or shorter leash are welcome. $1 per child, $5 per adult is payable by cash or check at the office upon your arrival. We will meet at the park office and caravan to the trailhead. To reserve your spot call 518-793-0511- the earlier the better as this is a popular program and it fills up quickly.

Olana State Historic Site
Spend your evening looking up at the cosmos in the spirit of Frederic Church's celestial-inspired paintings! During this free, drop-in program, learn more about the night sky and when viewable planets and deep-sky objects are visible from Olana State Historic Site. Members of the Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association will project real-time astro-images of galaxies and nebulae inside while Saturn, Jupiter, and other objects will be visible with the aid of additional powerful telescopes outdoors. Special star-tours will be held at 7 PM and 9 PM, where an expert guide will point out the evening's visible constellations. Light refreshments will be served. FREE; drop-in anytime during the duration of the program. Pre-registration is encouraged to ensure up to date info on viewing conditions. Rain and/or cloud date will be on Saturday, November 23. The Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association hosts a monthly stargazing party in the West Beach parking lot. Bring your own telescopes and binoculars or use those provided by our members. You will be asked to provide your license plate number and make/model car, so Park Management and Police have a record of who will be in park after hours.
