John Jay was the third member (along with Benjamin Franklin and John Adams) of the Peace Commission which produced the treaty ending the Revolution and definitively established the independence of the "United States." Eliga Gould, Professor of History at the University of New Hampshire, calls this Treaty of Paris "the third founding document, equal in importance to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution." Every Saturday, from May through October, customers can expect to find certified organic and biodynamic produce, ethically-raised, organic meat and eggs, as well as a wide variety of artisan food items with dozens of weekly vendors.Farm Market is open from 9:30am to 2:00pm for the general public, while members of Friends of John Jay Homestead are offered the Members Only First Pick from 9:00am to 9:30am.

Join us on Saturday, May 4th, for a hands-on presentation about Algonkian life in the Northeast during the 18th Century with Drew Shuptar-Rayvis (Pekatawas MakataweU "Black Corn"). Drew will take us on a journey that will examine changes in Algonkian life during the early-1700s, including daily living, customs of war, adoption/captivity, alliances, and friendships and marriages between Natives, Europeans and Africans. He will also bring several traditional items and artifacts to examine.

Friends of John Jay Homestead present a lecture with The Hon. Stephen G. Breyer on his book Reading the Constitution: Why I Chose Pragmatism, Not Textualism on Tuesday, May 7 at 6:30pm at Bedford Playhouse in Bedford, NY.Nominated by President Clinton, Justice Breyer served on the Supreme Court from 1994 until his retirement in 2022. He was preceded by Justice Harry Blackmun and succeeded by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson; he wrote 551 opinions during that 28-year career. Before the Supreme Court, he served on the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit (1980-1994) including four years as Chief Judge; before that he held many government positions, including assistant special prosecutor on the Watergate Special Prosecution Force. He is currently the Byrne Professor of Administrative Law and Process at Harvard Law School.
