Nature Up Close: Bluebird Homes

Learn about the life of our state bird, as well as some basics of nest box design and bluebird trails. This is an excellent primer for the Morning Bird Walk on April 26th or for anyone who would like to volunteer as a helper during our 23rd season of maintaining our Bluebird Trail. [To date, more than 1100 bluebirds have fledged from our boxes.]

The Nature Up Close programs allow participants a more detailed study of a topic with comparison of hands-on specimens and/or various audio-visual aids and handouts. All workshops meet in the Humphrey Nature Center located in Letchworth State Park. Programs are held on Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm and last for two hours.

Continual demonstrations of three different maple sugaring techniques will be going on, including Iroquois stone boiling, iron pot fire pit boiling, and the use of a modern evaporator. Hourly walks led by park naturalists will highlight maple tree identification, how to tap a tree, and more! Pancake breakfasts will be available thanks to the Friends of Letchworth State Park from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm each day.
