Adventure Starter Kit: Gear Galore for First-Time Hikers
Sunday, April 21, 2024 11:00 AM - 01:00 PM
Grafton Lakes State Park
Do you ever wonder how much water to bring with you on a hike? What type of clothing is best suited for the weather? How to properly attach snowshoes to your boots? Should I be using trekking poles? What exactly are gaiters, anyway? This course will focus on the gear, clothing, and essential items that hikers should bring with them whenever they step onto the trail. We will also be covering some helpful tips and tricks for the trail so you can spend more time hiking and less time stopping to re-adjust your gear. This course will be held indoors in a classroom setting, and is appropriate for ages 13 to adult. Participants should come dressed comfortably for an indoor setting. This program will be led by Andy Bonelli, Grafton Lakes State Park Environmental Educator and New York State Licensed Outdoor Guide. This program is recommended for ages 13 to adult and will provide useful information for those who are brand new to hiking as well as experienced outdoors enthusiasts who are looking to gain knowledge and make their next adventure as safe and enjoyable as possible. Please call 518-279-1155 to register or for further information. Participants do not need to bring any equipment to the course. However, if you are feeling up to it, feel free to bring along any items that you would pack for a typical day hike. No two people pack their bags the same way, and it can be a fun way to learn from each other while seeing what unique items we each carry with us out on the trail.
