Place and Story: NYS Official War of 1812 Day and Fish & Wildlife Day

An old and a new approach to the NYS Parks diverse missions combines the state's official War of 1812 Day with a new event Fish & Wildlife Day. Scavenger Hunts - "Searching for Fall" and "Our History Trail" Saturday September 28th 1pm – 3pm. Join us at the site's navy yard at the end of West Main Street for fun and learning. The site's buildings are open Saturday 10am to 4:30pm.Colored leaves, Acorns, and Spiderwebs, oh my! So many different signs of fall are popping up. Come explore the change in season with a fall themed scavenger hunt in the historic site's memorial tree grove. Find everything on the list and win a prize!Follow the historic site's nationally designated History Trail to discover the role Sackets Harbor played during the War of 1812. Scavenger hunt clues are on the interpretive panels along the trail and in the barn exhibits.Along the way see how site staff work to retore native growth habitats on the historic battlegrounds by fighting invasive species to promote sustainable interaction with nature. The site is also recognized as an official NYS Birding Trail.Partners for the new Fish and Wildlife Day include Parks & Trails New York and the Department of Environments Conservation, as part of the "Love Our New York Lands Stewardship Days."
