Schuyler Mansion was home to Philip J. Schuyler, the renowned Revolutionary War general, US Senator, and business entrepreneur. He and his wife, Catharine Van Rensselaer, descended from affluent and powerful Dutch families. Together they raised eight children in this home. The Georgian structure, reflecting Schuyler's English tastes - was built on a bluff overlooking the Hudson River. Originally situated on an 80-acre tract of land, the grounds once included an orchard, a formal garden, and a working farm. Throughout the Schuyler family occupancy from 1763-1804, the mansion was the site of military strategizing, political hobnobbing, elegant social affairs, and an active family life. The wedding of daughter Elizabeth Schuyler to Alexander Hamilton took place in the house in 1780. Today, visitors can enjoy a guided tour of the mansion as well as an orientation exhibition in the Visitor Center focusing on Philip Schuyler's life. Temporary exhibitions and public programs are scheduled year-round. Tours for school and adult groups, as well as outreach programs, are available by reservation. Please call (518) 434-0834 to make a reservation. Group tour rates are available for 11 or more people.

Friends of Schuyler Mansion Virtual Annual Meeting
Tuesday, May 18, 2021, 5:30 PM
A short business meeting and election of officers will be followed by In Memoriam: Casualties of the 1777 Battles of Saratoga, a presentation by Eric Schnitzer, historian and Park Ranger at the Saratoga National Historical Park. The program focuses on Schnitzer's ongoing research to identify all American soldiers who were casualties (killed wounded, captured, died of disease) while serving in the Northern Army in 1777, at the time of the Battles of Saratoga. By combining military and genealogical records, powerful stories about real people are revealed, which humanize what have heretofore appeared as mere numbers on casualty lists.
Schnitzer is considered one of the foremost experts on the Northern Campaign of 1777 and enjoys researching, interpreting, and writing about all aspects concerning it. The meeting will be held via Zoom. To attend, please call Schuyler Mansion at (518) 434-0834 to register your e-mail. Meeting link will be sent prior to the meeting.
