New York State has twenty state-designated Heritage Areas, and four federally designated Heritage Areas, each working to develop, preserve and promote the historic, cultural and natural resources that create its distinctive identity. The Advisory Council advises and guides the State Parks agency and the Heritage Area communities on issues relevant to the heritage areas.
