Pet Policy

A maximum of two pets are allowed in campsites and day use areas unless prohibited by sign or directive. Pets are to be supervised at all times and either be crated or on a leash not more than 6-feet in length. Proof of rabies inoculation shall be produced if requested by staff. Pets are not permitted in playgrounds, buildings, golf courses, boardwalks, pools and spray-grounds or guarded beaches (this does not apply to service animals).

Gilbert Lake State Park's lake and three ponds lie in wooded, hilly terrain in the foothills of the Catskills. In addition to cabins and campsites, the park has more than 12 miles of interconnecting trails for hikers, skiers, snowmobilers and snowshoers. Playgrounds and a disc golf course, as well as swimming, boat rentals, boating (car top/hard bottom boats) and fishing are also featured.

Gilbert Lake is also home to the New York State Civilian Conservation Corps Museum.   

Pavilion Information

Gilbert Lake has three pavilions. Prices range from $100 to $250 and can accommodate 40 to 200 people. Check availability at ReserveAmerica.com

Hours of Operation

  • Park is open year-round, from dawn to dusk. Current Office hours are 7am-3:30pm daily until 4/1/2024. For assistance, call 607-432-2114, before driving to the park. 
  • 2024 Winter Season:  Groomed ski trails around the lake. Parking at Briggs parking lot.   Open dawn to dusk. 

    2024 Summer Season: Summer hours are 8am - 9pm Sunday-Saturday.

    2024 Swimming Season: Open 5/25 through Memorial Day. Weekends only until 6/15/2024. Open seven days a week 6/15/2024-9/2/2024
  • Camping/Cabins:

    135 campsites and 33 cabins.

    All are open Friday, May 18 through Sunday, October 13, 2024. Reservations required for all 2024 camping. For reservations/availability, contact www.reserveamerica.com or call 1-800-456-2267.

    For all campsites, maximum of 6 people, regardless of age. Cabin max 4 or 6 depending on cabin occupancy. 

    Cabins rent for 7 or 14 days.

    2024 Season: Cabins 1-12, 17-21 Sunday to Sunday.  Cabins 13-16, 22-33 Saturday to Saturday.

    Hilltop: Sites 1-57 (Electric sites 1-9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 31-36, 52-57)
    Deer Run (Electric sites 59-76, 80-89). (Non electric sites 90-135)
  • Boat Rentals (single, double kayaks, paddle boards, available):

    Boat rentals are available ONLY when lifeguards are on duty. Renter must be at least 16 years old and all users must use a Coast Guard approved life vest that will be provided. Refer to Fees and Rates tab for more information. 

    Personal Boats: Cartop boats only - no trailer-launched boats.  Launching is available a short carry from the parking area for personal non-motorized boats.  Electric trolling motors are allowed on personal boats, but NOT rentals.

    Permit:  No boat permit necessary for day use, but may be obtained in the office to leave a boat for the summer - removal no later than Nov. 30th. 


  • Shelter Rentals: 

    2024 shelter reservations (May 18th to October 13th) must be made through www.ReserveAmerica.com or 1-800-456-2267

Fees & Rates

Most New York State Parks charge a vehicle use fee to enter the facility. Fees vary by location and season. A list of entry fees and other park use fees is available below. For fees not listed or to verify information, please contact the park directly.

The easy-to-use Empire Pass card is $80- and your key to all-season enjoyment with unlimited day-use entry at most facilities operated by State Parks and the State Dept. of Environmental Conservation including forests, beaches, trails and more.   • Cars:  $7 from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day. You may pay with cash/credit or by one of the many NYS Admission Programs.

Gilbert Lake State Park
Self-guided hike/ski/snowshoe around the Gilbert Lake trail or outer trails. Dress for the weather and wear smart footwear for outdoor activities, there may be snow, ice, slush and/or mud. If we've had enough snow, we'll have the road around the lake snow-blown for easy walking. The fires will be roaring in the Briggs pavilion to warm you up after your outdoor adventure and snacks and hot beverages will be provided. Meet-up Location: Briggs Pavilion at Gilbert Lake, Approximate distance of hike: 1-3 miles, Leashed pets welcome.
