Selkirk Shores State Park's campsites overlook a bluff on Lake Ontario. In addition to Great Lakes swimming, visitors can expect outstanding fishing and spectacular sunsets. Small boats can be launched from the Pine Grove site into the Salmon River. Larger boats should launch Mexico Point on the Little Salmon River. Summer hiking and biking trails are used in the winter by cross-country skiers and for snowmobilers. Selkirk Shores is on the direct migration route for a wide variety of bird species. Swimming is not allowed at Selkirk Shores State Park. The former swimming beach will require a comprehensive waterfront evaluation, design, and reconstruction project before this activity could return to the park. There are currently no plans or funding in place for this project. Campers may swim free of charge at Sandy Island Beach State Park which is open 11am-7pm weekends and holidays beginning Memorial Day through Labor Day and daily mid-June through Labor Day. Sandy Island is located 7 miles from Selkirk Shores.
