This bronze vase is part of the collections at Clermont State Historic Site and dates to the early 20th century, when John Henry (1848?1927) and Alice Delafield Clarkson Livingston (1872?1964) occupied the family home. The vase?s iris motif was a common Arts and Crafts design, generally inspired by Asian design. Despite their appreciation for family antiques, the last two generations of Livingstons to live at Clermont also brought modern pieces such as this one into their home.
