This baccarat-style crystal chandelier hangs in the drawing room at Clermont State Historic Site. It was moved there sometime in the 19th century from Robert R. Livingston Jr.?s mansion, Arryl House. It is visible in an 1888 photograph of Clermont?s drawing room. The chandelier was acquired while Livingston served as Minister to France for Thomas Jefferson from 1801 to 1804. While in France, Livingston was tasked with the negotiation of the sale of New Orleans to the United States, which resulted in the Louisiana Purchase.
