Posset Pot - Posset was a hot drink of milk curdled with wine or ale, spiced and sweetened. It first appeared in England in the 15th century and was usually served in these distinctive two-handled pots. Many fragments of buff-colored earthenware posset pots were found at Fort Montgomery, primarily in the enlisted men's quarters. It is believed the men used them as soup or stew bowls, suggesting the challenges the army faced in supplying appropriate material to the troops in the field.
