The Carriage Barn Education and Visitor Center was built by John Jay in 1800-1801 to house his carriages and carriage horses. Today, it functions as an education center where visitors can learn about Jay and the property through computerized, interactive displays, a thirteen-minute video, a reading room, an equine education area, and for children, five Discovery Boxes that encircle a reproduction Governess's Cart.
