This slant-front tiger maple desk is said to have been used by George Washington when he occupied the Thomas Ellison residence in New Windsor from June 23, 1779, to July 25, 1779, and again December 8, 1780, to June 25, 1781. When Washington occupied private homes, he occasionally used the owners' furnishings with their permission, or if needed, had a collection of furnishings that were shipped to his temporary headquarters.
