Hallock State Park Preserve offers a total of 225 acres. Hallock State Park Preserve is a shorefront park preserve that offers nearly one mile of pristine beachfront on the North Shore of Long Island along the Long Island Sound.
Hiking, nature walks, and bird watching are available. Development of the remainder of the preserve is in the planning stages and may include formal trails, environmental education, and activities appropriate for a park preserve.
Trail Guide
Print and fold to create a guide for an individual or family walk at Hallock State Preserve. If you cannot print 2-sided, the two sheets can be printed and stabled together, back-to-back, before folding. The markers follow the Yellow Trail, which starts in the northwest corner of the upper parking lot. A park map is also available on this site.

to join us to help prevent injury and illness to fish, birds, sea turtles and
sea mammals? Come join members of the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society (AMSEAS)
and Hallock State Park Preserve staff collect marine debris on our Long Island Sound
beachfront. Dress appropriately for the
weather. Bring gloves and water in
refillable containers and your willingness to help. Trash pickers and buckets
will be provided. AMSEAS also collects data with your assistance to measure the

Hallock State Park Preserve
Meet at Visitor Center. Women moving towards freedom and independence through the
bicycle and motorcycle.

development to bring women closer to freedom and independence
was the
invention of the bicycle." Susan B.
Anthony 1896
Certain adventurous women chose a
different path to freedom and independence by riding bicycles and motorcycles.
Riding these machines challenged social mores and led to a change in how
society viewed women. It also changed the way women viewed themselves. In the
late 1800s, early 1900s "The New Woman" started riding these "freedom machines"
and could, for the first time, venture out without a male chaperon. Now women
could exercise in fresh air in public. These new activities necessitated a
change in women's dress. Long Victorian dresses, corsets, and bustles were
replaced by form fitting outfits. The bicycle became a symbol for the struggle to
vote. Be inspired as historian Bruce
Kagan will take you on "the road less traveled," reviewing the development of
the bicycle and motorcycle and highlighting key biographies of women who dared
to make these machines part of their lives. Their journey elevated and changed
society.

Hallock State Park Preserve
Meet at Visitor Center. Observe different species of native
Long Island wildflowers in the garden, learn why they were chosen, why it is
important to plant native flowers, and observe different species of insects
that visit these flowers! This wildflower garden has attracted many
pollinators such as butterflies and different species of bees. Program led by
State Park Naturalist MaryLaura Lamont.
