Kick off the Halloween season by coming to Clermont for some socially distanced pumpkin carving. Learn a little about the history of the Jack o'Lantern and how once upon a time we carved...turnips?!?! We will provide the tools and the pumpkins. You make sure to bring your creativity! Join us and get a jumpstart on your Halloween decorating! This program is FREE, but registration is required.

Get Into the Spirit(ualism) of Halloween

Lecture. Join Clermont's School Program Coordinator Emily Robinson as she examines the history of the Spiritualist Movement. This movement led to the early 20th century popularity of activities like seances, tarot cards, and Ouija boards. And it began right here in New York! Come join us to learn about some spooky local history. This program is FREE, but registration is required.

In 1776 an old woman fought and died as a patriot in the Revolutionary War. Some said she was a witch, others said she was a healer of Bohemian origin. What we know is she lived within our Preserve. On "Hulda's Night" a small group gathers and is guided by torch light through the dark woods. They make their way to the place we believe Hulda's actual home may have stood. There they will meet Mother Hulda and hear her tell her story. They will also join Storyteller Mike at Spook Rock to hear other legends that have their origins within what is now the Rockefeller State Park Preserve. Due to COVID each program is limited to 25 people. No exceptions possible.

No children under 10 please. Face covering required by all, dogs are not allowed, please bring a flashlight.

Meet at 25 Sleepy Hollow Road, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591 (home of the Park Manager)

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early. Groups leave promptly at scheduled times. You MUST leave with your group. No exceptions.

Cost: $5/person

Homeschoolers Halloween at Sam’s Point

Get in the Halloween spirit with the Park Educators at Sam's Point. Children will start with a fun craft to make their own imaginary animals. Your child's animal may have the beak of a woodpecker, but the ears of a bear! Each child will have an opportunity to show other participants their unique animal and to talk about its special characteristics. Then, we'll go for a two-mile round trip hike to see a spooky, wildfire-burnt forest. This program is recommended for children between the ages of six to ten years old, accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. Siblings of any age are welcome; however, younger siblings may need parental assistance.

Due to COVID protocols, the total number of participants for this program is limited to twelve individuals. All participants must wear face coverings or keep a minimum six foot distance away from others who are not part of your immediate household. Meet at the Sam's Point Visitor Center. Pre-registration is required by calling Sam's Point at 845-647-7989.

For one day only, the Nature Center will be taken over by the scariest creatures that call the park home! There will exhibits and activities for all ages - check out some skulls, see some creepy crawlies, visit the "Table of Yuck", and more! 

Please note: For 2020 this event will be outdoors and we will cycle groups through to maintain social distancing. Face mask required for all visitors ages 2 and over.

Join Clermont Historic Interpreter Molly Feibel as she looks at how the Livingstons would've celebrated this beloved fall holiday. From when the First Lord came to America in the 1670s and Halloween was more of a religious observance to the early 20th Century when seances and parties were all the rage, we will be exploring what the Livingston could be found doing on October 31st. This program is FREE, but registration is required.

The purpose is to locate the birds using this area which includes all of Silver Lake and the northern half of Letchworth State Park. Interested persons should contact Douglas Bassett at 585-493-3625 prior to December 19 for territory assignment.
