New York State Parks are home to thousands of miles of trails suited for a variety of activities and abilities. You can breathe in the sea air on Long Island, explore the gorges and waterfalls in the Finger Lakes, venture through old-growth forests in western NY, and so much more/.
Walking and Hiking
Whether you’re out for a stroll with the family or setting off into the hills, there’s a trail for you. Many parks offer smooth, flat pathways or interpretive nature trails that are well suited to families or a relaxed pace. Looking for a challenge? There are many more trails that will reward your hard work with a great view.
Bicycling
Shared-use paths and rail-trails are care-free and perfect for bicycling in New York. Some of these parks include the Harlem Valley Rail Trail, Genesee Valley Greenway, Old Erie Canal State Park, and, of course, the Empire State Trail. Looking for more challenge? Some parks also allow mountain biking on portions of the trail network.
Accessible Trails
Universal access is an important component of our mission. There are facilities across the state that have hardened trails suitable for all abilities, in a variety of natural settings.
Trail Maps
Planning ahead includes having a map. You can visit each park’s page to find a trail map of the facilities or, better yet, download the PARKS EXPLORER APP and have every map at your fingertips.
