At New Windsor Cantonment, a military drill and cannon firing at 2:00 PM, followed by children's musket drill. At 3:00 PM, visitor assisted reading of the Declaration of Independence followed by another military demonstration.

Independence Day at Clermont Mansion Lawn

What was life like for the people of Clermont at the dawn of the Revolutionary War? See reenactors portray the daily life of these colonists through cooking, woodworking, blacksmithing, and more. Take an open house tour of the historic mansion and learn about the whole history of Clermont from one of our experienced guides. Make a historic craft or try out a colonial game. Be entertained by the songs and stories of Thomas Hooker Hanford. Learn about African American and European Colonial musical traditions with Carla and Keyes. Hear readings of Frederick Douglass' famous speech "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?" Enjoy delicious hot food from At First Bite and sweet frappes and coffees from Happie Bean. The day will end with a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Please note: The cost of this event is $15 per vehicle. Cash only. The event ends at 5:00pm. The park closes at sunset.

Join us for a special Independence Day celebration at Fort Montgomery! Witness the ROAR and THUNDER at the Grand Battery when the fort's 6-pounder cannon "Ana" is fired at NOON! 18th century medical demonstrations, military drills, and site tours will take place throughout the day. 

Program is FREE and Family-Friendly!

July 4th Fireworks Spectacular

Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park
On Thursday, July 4, Walkway Over the Hudson will be open to ticket holders for an unobstructed view of the City of Poughkeepsie fireworks display. Spend the evening with friends and family taking in amazing twilight views 212 feet above the Hudson River before seeing the fireworks launch at eye level! Space is strictly limited at this event and tickets required for all attendees. Children 12 and under are free but must reserve a ticket online in advance for admittance. Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park
The Friends of the Walkway nonprofit organization is pleased to offer the opportunity to enjoy amazing Hudson Valley views after dark from 212 feet above the Hudson River at Walkway at Night. With the moon hanging high in the sky and the Mid-Hudson Bridge twinkling in the distance, there is truly nothing like a twilight evening on the World's Longest Elevated Pedestrian Bridge. Our friends from the Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association will be on-bridge with telescopes to view the night sky (weather permitting).Everyone must reserve a ticket for entry. Walkway members are welcome to attend at no cost. Non-members can register for $5.
