Our Wildlife Wednesday program covers a range of topics – from aquatic life to birds to plants and environmental awareness. These programs are facilitated by Environmental Educators George Steele and Anita Sanchez as well as NYS Parks Naturalist Interns Kim and Keri.June 27th will be an evening Bird Walk with Environmental Educator George Steele. We'll stroll along the river looking for waterfowl, herons and other birds--perhaps a bald eagle will fly by!

Come join in the fun for the 3rd Annual Putman Porch Music series at Yankee Hill Lock!

Each Thursday evening in June, local musicians are encouraged to informally gather to play American roots & folk music on the porch of this historic canal store at Yankee Hill Lock. 553 Queen Anne Road, Amsterdam NY

Around the Visitor Center - $8 donation per person (age 6+) $6 donation for Seniors (age 60+)

Gates open at 10:00 am. Grand entry is about noon each day and then Opening Prayer followed by the posting of the colors (flags). Event will include veterans honor dance, intertribal dancing, Aztec dancing, Iroquois Social Dancing, and more. The public is invited to join in and have fun.

Metis Nation North America-Canadian Bands encourage all veterans to come and be honored at the Veterans Dance. We will honor all firefighters and paramedics also. All handicapped spectators, nursing home residents and children under 5 years of age are free.

Program will occur on the grounds of Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site. Dress appropriately for the weather and wear proper shoes for walking on damp grass.

In the Enders House- The Teeth of the Lion: The Story of the Beloved and Despised Dandelion

Join us as we welcome author Anita Sanchez who will share some stories, lore, and recipes involving dandelions. Once a highly esteemed medicine and a popular garden plant, it's only recently that dandelions have lost their popularity. We'll try dandelion tea and collect some specimens of dandelions and other common medicinal plants.

Epizooty! The Great Horse Influenza and the Erie Canal w/ Travis Bowman & Friends Meeting

In the Enders House- What happened when every engine in New York State effectively stopped working at the same time? Post-Civil War America is commonly thought of as a time of rapid industrialization and mechanization, but in reality, horses and mules were still at the heart of every transportation system in the country. Using collections from the new exhibit at Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site, Senior Curator from the NYS Bureau of Historic Sites Travis Bowman will discuss the devastating effects of the horse influenza epizootic of 1872-3, which shut down the Erie Canal and possibly drove a leading freight company on the canal to go bankrupt in 1874.

There will be a brief Friends Group meeting prior to the presentation. This is a FREE event open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Visitor Center- Come explore the trails at Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site w/ site educator David for this free Autumn Tour. The tour covers about a mile of the historic Erie Canal towpath and will include interpretive stops along the way. Autumn is a terrific time of year to walk the trails at Schoharie Crossing, and this is a great chance to get a free tour.

Tour time is approximately 90 minutes with interpretive stops. Please wear appropriate footwear for walking on grass trails. In case of *Rain* tour will be post-poned.
