Discovery Day: Environmental History of The Hudson

Site staff and guest interpreters will offer educational programs and hands-on activities that look at the long history of human interactions with the Hudson River, including Native American use of the river, Dutch settlement along the Hudson, and the rapid changes to the shoreline and the broader Hudson Valley after construction of Erie Canal.

Summer Sampler is our week long morning program for 6-12 year olds. On Monday- Friday we will focus colonial life in the Hudson River Valley. Children will learn about artists and painting, everyday life, Dutch food, colonial trades and clothing plus soldiers and the military. We will have two different age groups of activities. 6-8 year olds will use storytelling, crafts and games to learn about history. 9-12 year olds will have hands on activities, games and crafts. Snacks and water will be provided every day.

$10.00 per child/ per day
$7.00 per child/ FOFC members
discount for siblings

Learn about the storage of ice during the summer months and the special treats made with ice. We will be using a reproduction of an 18th century ice cream maker with original recipes. Children will also learn how to make an easy ice cream at home.

Harvest Faire

An old fashioned agricultural festival devoted to all aspects of harvest time in the colonial era Hudson Valley. Harvest Faire offers seventeenth and eighteenth century music, historical reenactors, vendors, Native American and colonial demonstrations, games and activities. Harvest Faire is part of the Hudson River Ramble. Free to attend, suggested donation to enter the museum.

Meet Sinterklaas, the Dutch St. Nicholas, who will be stopping by to see if you've been good or bad this year! Crailo's Marketplace Museum Shop will be offering unique gifts for the holidays. There will be crafts for the kids, refreshments and cooking demonstrations by the fire. The museum will be open for self-guided tours. Free!
