Join our all new hearth cooking classes in the Crailo cellar kitchen. Through the use of hands on participation experienced instructors will impart hearth cooking skills, techniques, knowledge of 17th and 18th century receipts "recipes" and imported ingredients.
For this workshop we will test four different recipes: Tea biscuits, speculaas, wafers and a Christmas cookie with two different baking methods. As we bake these cookies we will talk about colonial spices, baking basics and the introduction of chemical leavening in the late 18th century. All ingredients and necessary materials will be provided. Participants only need to bring an apron and a passion for the history of food.
Workshop admission is $40.00 for members of the Friends of Fort Crailo and $50.00 for non-members. For maximum enjoyment and participation, the workshop is limited to 8 people.
