For the past 54 years, Sackets
Harbor's Can-Am Festival centers on the waterfront to celebrate
Canadian-American heritage. On the Battlefield historic site's lawn, the
dramatic arrival and landing of US army helicopters from Fort Drum always draws
a crowd. Visit the soldiers and climb into the pilot's cockpit seat. Stay until
the helicopters take off to get the full dramatic experience of these powerful rotorcraft.

Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site
A living history exhibit! An 18th
century blacksmithing re-enactor who presented last summer at the site's North
American War of 1812 Grand Tactical was the traveling blacksmith Jymm who attracted
crowds as he demonstrated blacksmithing and explained the role of early
American traveling blacksmiths. Back by popular demand! Jymm returns to the
historic site for two full days of demonstrations. A traveling forge with a limber made
up wagons designed as blacksmith shops on wheels, carrying essential blacksmith
equipment and farriers to both shoe horses and repair wagons and artillery
equipment.

much-acclaimed presenters travel the world to educate on Native American
culture, history, song, and dance, from pre-contact to modern contemporary
Indigenous culture with emphasis on historical material culture for 17th, 18th,
and 19th centuries. Jordan
teaches culture to students in the Niagara Wheatfield school district (K-12)
and is currently the head of Native education at Old Fort Niagara historic site
in Youngstown, New York. Kehala, a fifth-generation
beadworker, is the creator and designer of Kreations by Kehala, which features
Native American beadwork, jewelry, clothing, and statement pieces. She also
serves as the assistant social dance teacher to the youth on the Tuscarora
Reservation and is a Native American dance presentation coordinator and dancer. They
share stories about their culture, costuming, and traditions, and engage guests
in conversation about the past, present, and future of their people. They also
demonstrate and display culturally meaningful objects and materials, including
woven baskets, slippery elm bark, and wampum belts.

Dr. Ray Petersen presentations on democracy,
the Constitution, and political science themes reflect the depth of knowledge
gained from his 40+ years as professor at Jefferson Community College. His
programs at the historic site in spring and fall each year draw audiences of
life-long learners. Explore with Dr. Ray Petersen the democratic
ideals and goals that are still being sought rather than fully realized
realities. While democratic systems have made significant progress, they are
constantly evolving and facing challenges to ensure fairness, equality, and
representation for all citizens.

Dr. Josh Canale is a board member of the
Sackets Harbor Battlefield Alliance and facilitates the site's biannual
"Reading and Discussion Series." The
focus of Dr. Josh Canale's Doctorate is the American Revolution, so this is a favorite topic
for him. The Revolutionary War saw extensive use of spies and intricate
networks of intelligence gathering by both the Americans and the British.

partners with the Hay Memorial Library for a StoryWalk on site. Begin your
Story Walk loop at the end of West Main Street reading pages from the featured
book. Receive a "take-and-make" gift, while the supply lasts. Adding to this Story Walk
experience are many interpretive panels on the History Trail that tell the
story of the 29 May 1813 Second Battle of Sackets Harbor.
