Lecture: Declaration of Independence: Senior Historian Michael Sunday, July 2 Sheehan will present an illustrated talk on the proceedings of Congress in early 1776, featuring the parts played by John Adams, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson in writing the Declaration of Independence to be followed by Reading of the Declaration by a costumed interpreter.

3:00pm: Artillery drill and firing demonstration.

Celebrate the Storming of Stony Point with reenactors from American, British, and Loyalist units. Military drills, musket demonstrations, and artillery demonstrations will take place all day. Visit the 18th century camps and experience life for soldiers and the women and families who accompanied them in the war. Special lecture by Don Hagist on the important role of Women in the British Army. Demonstrations and hands-on participation activities throughout the day including: spinning and dyeing wool, cooking, gardening, blacksmithing, colonial games and wooden musket drills for children. All activities Free.

Lafayette proved a vital force in both the American and French Revolutions. This illustrated lecture by Senior Historian Michael Sheehan explores the incredible life of Washington's protégé.

This talk by researcher/author Don Hagist will examine rare accounts along with his research to put each man's experience into context. He will talk about writing his book, showing the diversity of experiences that soldiers had and the types of data used to discover their stories.

While en route from Massachusetts to Virginia, the British POWs from Saratoga (the Convention Army) had to cross the Hudson River in December 1778. British High-Command decided to land on Stony Point and rescue them! Michael Sheehan's illustrated lecture will dive into this little known but incredible episode in Stony Point's history.
