Water Lilies Painting Workshop at Thacher Nature Center

Paint a lovely, serene lake scene with water lily blooms and dainty dragonflies. Students will participate in a guided painting lesson with local artist and teacher Noreen Powell. All materials will be provided, and participants will go home with a completed painting. Program is appropriate for adults and children ages 7 and up. Materials fee of $10 per person. Join us for a Summer of Science program! After dark, a whole other community of animals becomes active. Come and see gorgeous moths and other nocturnal insects attracted to special lights. After a short introduction inside, head out to the moth lighting set-up with moth experts Catherine Klatt and Rebecca Allmond. Bring a flashlight and be prepared for mosquitoes. We’ll learn about what lives in the mud and leaves at the bottom of lake edges and then see what we can find. Learn why these creatures of the lake are important. Hawk Migration Watch at Thacher Park Overlook

Thacher Park Overlook is a great place to watch for hawks flying south during their fall migration. Hawk Watch leader Will Aubrey will be on hand to answer questions, provide background material, compile statistics, and assist with hawk identification. Come see live raptors and learn about wildlife rehabilitation with Richele Ford. Refreshments will be available at the Overlook concession stand.
