Hamilton Point Loop Hike at Minnewaska

Come along for an approximately eight-mile outing to Hamilton Point and beyond, traveling on picturesque carriage roads. This hike will take participants on the Lake Minnewaska Carriage Road, Hamilton Point Carriage Road, Castle Point Carriage Road and on Upper Awosting Carriage Road. All participants should come well prepared with appropriate footwear, food and water. Pre-registration is required by calling Minnewaska at 845-255-0752.

Mountain Laurels on Mossy Glen Hike at Minnewaska

Laura Conner, Environmental Educator, will lead this four-mile round trip hike along the quietly babbling edges of the Peter’s Kill stream and through the cool hemlock forests and tropical-feeling rhododendron stands of the Mossy Glen Footpath. This trail does include some tricky footing, but the return trip along the Lower Awosting Carriage Road is an easy stroll. Pre-registration is required by calling Minnewaska at 845-255-0752.

Tuesday Trek: Rainbow Falls Loop Hike at Minnewaska

Join Laura Conner, Environmental Educator, for an approximately six-mile-long, loop hike along the Mossy Glen and Rainbow Falls Footpaths and numerous carriage roads. Enjoy a beautiful, panoramic view of the Catskills and the north end of the Shawangunk Ridge from the open, rock slabs along this route. And, the walk beneath Rainbow Falls is always refreshing and picturesque. This scenic outing wanders through varied terrain including a lush stream-side trail, easy walking sections of carriage road and some challenging rocky, narrow sections of trail. Juneberries & Hike to Millbrook Mountain at Minnewaska

Have you ever heard of a juneberry? Or a shadbush? There is at least one species native to every Canadian province and continental state within the United States. Come meet and celebrate the juneberry with Park Educator, Nick Martin, on our way to Millbrook Mountain via a combination of carriage roads and one challenging footpath. On this approximately five-mile hike we will discuss the cultural and nutritious significance of this tree and learn how to identify it, too. If we are lucky, we will find some ripe juneberries along the trail to sample. Participants must come prepared with appropriate footwear and enough food and water for this hike. Hike to Panther Rock and Mine Hole Falls at Minnewaska

Join Allan Serrano, Student Conservation Association/Americorps member, for an approximately five-mile hike up to Panther Rock. This route features a full range of the unique forest communities found in the Park Preserve as it ascends 1,400 feet from the fertile hardwood forests of the valley. Along the way, we’ll also pass through a Chestnut oak forest and Pitch Pine barrens until we reach Panther Rock, which offers great views of the Catskill Mountains and the Rondout Valley. On the way, there will be a side trip to Mine Hole Falls, site of a mysterious human excavation nestled behind the Falls. This moderately strenuous hike does include significant elevation gain and rugged trails. It is recommended for adults and children older than 13 years old, accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. Meet in the Awosting Parking Lot, where participants will carpool down to the trailhead. Pre-registration is required by calling Minnewaska at 845-255-0752.
