Secrets of the Reef Guided Walk

Green Lakes State Park
Did you know that Green and Round Lake are home to
freshwater reefs? Come join an educator to learn about the marl reefs at Green
Lakes. How did they form? What are they made of? Why are they important for the
lake? Come find out! Walk around the lake to look at the reefs and learn more!
This is a two mile walk on a flat crushed gravel trail. Usually takes between
1-1.5 hours. Meet at the Environmental Education Center located next to the
west beach parking lot.

Kayak Paddle

Green Lakes State Park
Join us at Green Lakes for a kayak paddle! This
program is for visitors who have kayaked before and are comfortable on the
water. Wear comfortable shoes that can get wet. We do not plan on getting in
the water, but you will get wet from splashes. Bring a water bottle and
sunscreen. Kayaks, paddles, and lifejackets are provided or bring your own
coast guard approved PFD's. Pre-registration required:

Fish Frenzy

10-11am Fish ID: Join our Regional Biologist
to learn about the fish that live in Green Lake. At 10am we will pull in our
net and see what we catch. Then Tom will tell us about the fish!
11am-12pm Fishing: Bing your pole and tackle for our fishing clinic
or borrow one of ours (we have a limited supply.) Children must be
accompanied by an adult. Anyone 16+ needs a NYS Fishing License to join in
the fun. Event is located near the Environmental Education Center (West Beach).

Exploring the unusual and
ancient forms of life in the bottom of Green Lake Presented by Dr Mike
McCormick- Did you know some people refer to the bottom layer of Green Lake as
a "Dead Zone"? That isn't true at all! Dr Mike McCormick with Hamilton College
studies the life in the that layer and will share some of the things he's
learned with us in this special presentation. Environmental Education Center
(West Beach).
