Even though the traditional date for Earth Day is April 22, join State Park naturalist MaryLaura Lamont to celebrate it a few days earlier by walking the trails observing all things that call the Earth home. Plants, birds, mammals, and more will be found and discussed. Meet in the Upper Parking Lot.

This weekly walk and discussion with members of the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society and park staff monitors for injured wildlife along the Park Preserves' Long Island Sound beachfront. Dress for the weather and bring gloves. Trash pickers and buckets will be provided, to help remove debris that can harm sea life. Meet at Visitor Center.

Arbor Day Tree ID Walk

Hallock State Park Preserve
In "honor of trees" and Arbor Day, meet at the Visitor Center for the first part of the program handling samples of wood and learn what that wood was used for. Then we drive to the upper lot where we will walk the trails learning how to identify trees using buds, early leaves, flowers, seeds and bark. Led by State Park naturalist Mary Laura Lamont. Meet at the Visitor Center.

I Love My Park Day: NY State Parks Centennial Salute Open House

All are welcome to drop in for a NY State Park's 100th anniversary open house celebration at Hallock State Park Preserve, sponsored by the Parks and Trails New York. Ongoing programs, provided by the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society, representatives of the Shinnecock Nation and State Parks staff will include: 10:00 a.m. -Noon Volunteer Beach Cleanup activity, 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Trail Walk - Local Indigenous Peoples Relationship with Nature Walk, Noon-1:00 p.m. Indigenous Peoples Collective Prayer for whales and marine life, 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Volunteer tree planting activity, 1:00 p.m. -2:30 p.m. Volunteer Beach Clean activity, 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Nature/Trail walk with our State Park Naturalist focusing on how the Park Preserve is "reverting" back to nature. Ongoing: Tours of AMSEAS trailer and Eco-partner tabling, Hallockville Farm Museum table, Restrooms, water bottle filling station and gift shop available at Visitor Center.

Beach Monitoring/Clean-up: Focus on Shellfish

Meet at Visitor Center, There will be a short, informative presentation by Robin Metz in the Visitor Center on our local univalve and bivalve shellfish and a discussion how marine debris affects their environment. It will be followed by the weekly walk to monitor wildlife along the Park Preserve's mile of pristine Long Island Sound beachfront. Dress appropriately for the weather and bring gloves. Trash pickers and buckets will be provided, to help remove marine debris that can harm sea life.

Meet in Upper Parking Lot, Peak migration time for birds heading to their northern breeding grounds is now! This 3-mile bird walk along trails of the Preserve will observe many different species, particularly neotropical birds, such as warblers, grosbeaks, vireos and many more! Bring binoculars! Led by State Park Naturalist MaryLaura Lamont.
