Stargazing in the Preserve

Join Vinny Coulehan of the Rockland Astronomy Club for an evening of stargazing at the Preserve. You'll have the chance to view the night sky through a telescope and catch a glimpse of our planetary neighbors. Meet at the Visitor's Center courtyard, followed by a short walk on the Overlook trail to our viewing location. Bring water to drink as well as a flashlight or headlamp. IMPORTANT: We leave promptly at scheduled times. This is a night hike, after the park has officially closed. Latecomers will not be allowed to enter the park after the group has departed. Rain date: TBD. Cost: $3 + Eventbrite fees. Maximum: 20 people.

The Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association hosts a monthly stargazing party in the West Beach parking lot. Bring your own telescopes and binoculars or use those provided by our members. You will be asked to provide your license plate number and make/model car, so Park Management and Police have a record of who will be in park after hours. Get in the holiday spirit at our first ever luminary full moon walk! Come out to the park to enjoy a self-guided glowing trail by the Welcome Center, lit by luminary lanterns and the full moon. Enjoy the sounds of the holidays, a warm cup of hot chocolate, or roast a marshmallow over the fire. $5/person, ages 5 and under free.

Every month we give hikers an opportunity to experience the Preserve after dark in our "Full Moon Hike" series. Join us for this very popular and special event! The hike will be about 4 miles. Please bring water, a flashlight or headlamp, and dress according to weather conditions. Leashed dogs are welcome. Meet at the Visitor's Center courtyard. IMPORTANT: We leave promptly at scheduled times. This is a night hike, after the park has officially closed. Latecomers will not be allowed to enter the park after the group has departed. In case of bad weather, the hike will be canceled; You will be notified via email at least 2 hours in advance.

Cost: $3 + Eventbrite fees. Maximum: 40 people.
