Olana’s 2019 exhibition will showcase multimedia design concepts and installations, developed by leading architects and select artists. As Guest Curator, Barry Bergdoll (of Columbia University and the Museum of Modern Art) invited a group of today’s most exploratory architects to respond to the transitional outdoor rooms at Olana that are so essential to the original 19th century design of Olana’s Main House. On June 18, 1812, President James Madison declared war with England, the first time the United States had ever declared war on another country. Take a docent-led tour of John Jay’s Bedford House that highlights the causes of war and the impact that it had on America. Regular admission fees. Advance purchase of tickets is suggested as space is limited.

We will explore the life in and around Trout Pond.

Ages 6-12 on the 6th, 17th, and 27th

Ages 12+ on the 20th

This program is geared towards home school families with children ages 6-12. Offering one program per month for families with children ages 12+. Each month will focus on a different theme. Programs are free of charge, and pre-registration is not required but appreciated. Children must be accompanied by an adult for the entire program. Home Ecologist is at the Humphrey Nature Center.

Path Through History: Guided Tours of the Walkway

Enjoy a complimentary guided group tour of this historic railroad bridge featuring stories about the past, present and future of the Walkway. Appreciate breathtaking river and mountain views, fresh air and scenic Hudson Valley vistas. Learn detailed history about the bridge and surrounding area, and view interpretive signage and historic images. Tours are led by trained Walkway Ambassadors who are knowledgeable about the Walkway’s construction, history and reconstruction, as well as the Hudson River and surrounding areas. Tours leave from the Walkway’s east approach (61 Parker Avenue, Poughkeepsie).

A Life in Service Servants Tour

It took a small army to run this 79-room Gilded Age estate. See the mansion through the servants’ eyes, as they rose before dawn and toiled until after midnight. The tour will include visiting the unrestored servants’ hall. Even in its unrestored state, the hall is a striking artifact of the servant life and work, featuring the servants’ dining room, the footmen’s bedrooms and the tiled kitchen with its massive coal range. Reservations required. Cost: $10; $8 students and seniors; $6 Friends of Mills.
