Tuesday Trek: Flowers and the Sky Lake: Scenic Rainbow Falls Footpath Loop Hike at Minnewaska

Tuesday, June 22, 2021 09:30 AM - 04:30 PM

Join Laura Conner, Environmental Educator, and Vanessa Pagano, Student Conservation Association/AmeriCorps Environmental Educator for a most scenic walk along Upper Awosting and Castle Point Carriage Roads and a section of the remote Rainbow Falls Footpath. It's the best time of year to experience the burst of showy, pink, umbrella-shaped flowers that bloom on the mountain laurel bushes. Our seven-mile, round-trip route features the best of this annual show and also offers stunning views of Lake Awosting, the largest of the sky lakes, from a rocky, cliff-top ledge. Our return trip along Castle Point Carriage Road has fabulous views out over the Wallkill Valley all the way back. Participants should come prepared to spend the entire day on the trail, wearing good walking shoes and bringing all the food, water and gear that they will need. Due to COVID protocols, the total number of participants for this program is limited to nine individuals. All participants must wear face coverings or keep a minimum six-foot distance away from others who are not part of their immediate household. Meet at the Lake Minnewaska Visitor Center. Pre-registration is required by calling Minnewaska at 845-255-0752.
