Minnewaska Homeschoolers: Fall Leaves and Flying Seeds

Thursday, October 6, 2022 01:00 PM - 03:00 PM

Have you ever wondered how and why the leaves of trees change from bright green to brilliant yellow, red, and orange in autumn? Bring your homeschooled children to Minnewaska to discover the answer to this question and more. Starting with a lesson on fall foliage, Park Educators will then lead a leaf matching activity along one of the picturesque carriage roads near Lake Minnewaska. This engaging game teaches young children how to identify common trees, while enjoying an easy walk in the woods. We'll also look for various plant seeds and discuss the many ways that they are dispersed. If we have enough participants, we'll also play an interactive seed game outside. Lastly, everyone will have a chance to make their own leaf craft to take home. This program is recommended for children between the ages of six to ten years old, accompanied by a parent or legal guardian over the age of 18 years old. Well-behaved younger siblings are also welcome to join the program. Meet at the Lake Minnewaska Visitor Center. Pre-registration is required by calling the Lake Minnewaska Visitor Center at 845-255-0752.
