Beacon Hill and Lake Minnewaska Loop Hike at Minnewaska
Thursday, July 4, 2024
Join
Nick Martin, Park Educator, and Josh Grosse, Student
Conservation Association/AmeriCorps Environmental Educator, for a holiday hike
on several, iconic trails at Minnewaska. We will begin on Beacon Hill Carriage
Road, a gravel-covered trail with gentle declines, which we will walk until we
are greeted by a stunning view of Sky Top Tower, the Peter's Kill cliffs, and
the Wallkill Valley beyond. From here, we will walk the Beacon Hill Footpath,
which features some tricky footing and a few sections of moderate elevation
change. This footpath features impressive glacial evidence and a variety of
fascinating organisms. We will pop out at the Beacon Hill field, where we will
be treated to another breathtaking, western view. Afterwards, we will loop
around Lake Minnewaska Carriage Road back to the Visitor Center, which will
take us around the perimeter of the cool-watered lake and provide great looks
at the Shawangunk Conglomerate cliffs. Participants should come prepared with
appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear, plenty of water, and food to sustain
themselves. Meet at the Lake Minnewaska
Visitor Center. Pre-registration is required by calling the Lake Minnewaska
Visitor Center at 845-255-0752.
