Meditative Tuesday Trek to Millbrook Mountain at Minnewaska
Tuesday, July 9, 2024 09:30 AM - 02:00 PM
Join Josh Grosse, Student Conservation Association/AmeriCorps
Environmental Educator with Laura Conner, Environmental Educator, for a
five-mile, midweek hike to Millbrook Mountain and back, paired with optional
meditative prompts. We will begin our hike by looking through a set of
nature-themed meditation cards, which includes words of affirmation, walking
thoughts, and other valuable insights and questions. Those who wish to participate
can use their chosen card to set a thoughtful intention for the hike and will
be given numerous opportunities to reflect on their prompt. Our hike will begin
on the eastside of the Lake Minnewaska Carriage Road, which we will follow
until we meet the Millbrook Mountain Footpath. This footpath, which includes
tricky footing and steep hills, crosses a stream whose refreshing waters will
cool the air around us. From there, the footpath ascends for about half-a-mile
to the Millbrook Mountain overlook. Once here, we will stop to enjoy a snack
and do some quiet reflection/optional sharing of our thoughts. We will follow
the Millbrook Mountain Carriage Road back to the Visitor Center, passing the
remarkable, cliff-edge boulder named Patterson's Pellet along the way.
Participants should come prepared with appropriate clothing and sturdy
footwear, plenty of water, and food to sustain themselves. Meet at the Lake
Minnewaska Visitor Center. Pre-registration is required by calling the Lake
Minnewaska Visitor Center at 845-255-0752.
