Birds and Berries: OId Golf Course and Orchard Wander at Minnewaska
Saturday, July 20, 2024 09:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Join Nick Martin, Park Educator, for an approximately three-mile wander
through the winding, meadow pathways off the west side of Lake Minnewaska.
These footpaths navigate through the old golf course and orchard of the former
Minnewaska resort. Starting along the western section of the Lake Minnewaska
Carriage Road, we'll walk to the intersection with Upper Awosting Carriage
Road. From here, we'll walk less than a mile and then enter the old orchard.
Then, we'll wander the meandering paths until we intersect with the Castle
Point Carriage Road before heading back to Lake Minnewaska and our starting
point. The Meadow pathways can be wet and muddy, so participants are encouraged
to wear waterproof boots. Along the way, we will look and listen for the
presence of birds in this area. If there are any ripe blueberries along these
mowed, grassy pathways, we will snack on some as we hike. Meet at the Lake Minnewaska
Visitor Center. Pre-registration is required by calling Lake Minnewaska
Visitor Center at 845-255-0752.
