Leisurely Labor Day Hike at Minnewaska

Monday, September 2, 2024 09:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Join Josh Grosse, Student Conservation Association/AmeriCorps Environmental Educator, for a three-and-a-half-mile hike on Mossy Glen Footpath and Lower Awosting Carriage Road. This loop hike includes time on footpaths -- traditional trails, peppered with rocks and roots-- and carriage roads -- easier, more level, gravel roads -- on the return trip. Mossy Glen Footpath dances along the edge of the Peter's Kill stream, a cool-watered stream that flows over pale, quartz-conglomerate, rock slabs. The trail offers two bridge crossings, small waterfalls, and several chances to look at and listen to the gently flowing, soothing stream. Treat yourself to a lovely, easy-going walk this Labor Day morning, with enough time afterwards to grab a bite to eat, relax, or move on to another fun activity. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy footwear, and bring water, bug spray, and a snack to enjoy on the trail. Meet at the Lower Lot. Pre-registration is required by calling the Lake Minnewaska Visitor Center at 845-255-0752.
